![]() ![]() ![]() Only Sebastian Aho, with 10 points, has more points than Martinook. He’s gone from an empty score sheet to being the team’s second-leading scorer in the postseason through 10 games - three goals, six assists, all in four games against the Devils. I don’t think I’ve changed anything in this series. “I was around it and it just wasn’t going in. “I think that whole series, I felt good about my game,” Martinook said. That was especially true in the Hurricanes’ clinching win in Game 6 over the Islanders, after which he lamented that he felt like he was destined for the overtime winner that Paul Stastny wound up getting. Not that it mattered - he was still one of the Hurricanes’ most reliable forwards and fiercest forecheckers, limiting the opposition’s top talent at five-on-five while, along with Staal, being first over the boards for their league-leading penalty kill. Martinook had zero points in Carolina’s first-round series against the Islanders. It’s just awesome to see him get rewarded, and rightfully so - he’s been tenacious, he’s been hard on pucks, and just his work ethic has been bar none. “He’s been obviously our best player, really since playoffs started. “That’s a slow night for him,” Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal joked about his frequent linemate. How hot? The NHL took away an assist from Martinook on one of the Hurricanes’ five second-period goals, and the 30-year-old still finished with three points - his fourth consecutive multi-point game of the series, a franchise playoff record. Don’t look now, but the meat-and-potatoes Martinook is the hottest player in the NHL. ![]()
